Golf has always been a game of access. For too long, that access has been unequally distributed, with women — and particularly Black women — systemically excluded from a sport that carries enormous social and economic currency in South Africa.

Neome Nkosi is changing that. Through Golf With Neo, her Johannesburg-based initiative, she has introduced hundreds of women to golf, many of whom had never so much as held a club before.

“Golf gives you access to rooms you might never otherwise enter,” Nkosi explains. “Business deals happen on golf courses. Relationships are built there. If women are not on the fairway — they miss those opportunities.”
