At this year’s Luxurious Marble Circus, Savanna turned its 30th birthday into more than a toast. Its Dry District brought music, comedy and a mischievous piece of South African advertising history together for festivalgoers at the event’s third edition, held on 26 and 27 September at GROUND The Venue in Muldersdrift.
The celebration began before guests reached the festival. Savanna’s bottle disappeared from the brand’s digital platforms, setting up a playful mystery around who had taken it. Inside the Dry District, visitors found the answer: the monkey from the memorable “Do you know your monkey stole my Savanna?” campaign was back, bringing an old joke to a new audience.
The space carried that sense of humour throughout. In the Fantastical Forest, comedy and performance sat alongside the music and cider, giving guests a place to gather rather than simply pass through. DJ Kent curated the WeeKent experience, while Barry Hilton made a surprise appearance that connected Savanna’s comedy legacy with the present-day celebration.
For Savanna, the anniversary was an opportunity to revisit what has made the brand recognisable without relying on nostalgia alone.
“Celebrating that at Luxurious Marble Circus was never about nostalgia for the sake of it,” says Zetské Posthumus, Savanna’s Sponsorship Activations & Events Manager. “It was about showing that the same dry wit, the same crisp cider and the same Savanna spirit can still feel completely current when it meets great music, comedy, creators and a crowd ready to be surprised.”
Thirty years on, Savanna’s familiar approach to humour still found its place in the spectacle of the Circus. The monkey may have stolen the bottle, but the Dry District gave festivalgoers a chance to be in on the joke.
