The McDonald’s restaurant in Kyalami, Midrand, was a scene of motoring fanfare on Saturday, 14 November as the quick-service restaurant brand set the record for the most supercars served through a McDonald’s Drive-Thru in 15min.
Speaking at the event, McDonald’s SA CEO, Greg Solomon said, “Celebrating 25 years in South Africa is a huge milestone for us. This is a historic moment for our people and our business and we are proud to be here celebrating this achievement and what better way to do this than by breaking boundaries and setting a 15min Supercar Drive Thru record.”
Whilst McDonald’s SA has held many Drive Thru competitions with customers, motor bikes and charity organisations, this is their first with Supercars. Members of The Daytona Supercar Club, The Lamborghini Club South Africa and private owners all came out to put their cars and driving skills to the test as they raced through the world class Drive Thru, designed specifically for speed of service. The drivers clocked up an impressive 157 cars in 15 minutes through the Drive Thru, exceeding the 100car target that was set and are already looking to next year to beat this first attempt.
“An event like this provides our crew the opportunity to showcase their talent and skill by serving some of the best drivers and fastest cars in the country, a full meal in under 60 seconds each and every time! And to close off this thrilling day, we will be donating 500 meals to the Daytona Supercar Club’s charity of choice,” concludes Daniel Padiachy, Executive for Supply Chain, Marketing and Technology atMcDonald’s SA.
The event forms part of a series of festivities planned by McDonald’s SA for November to celebrate its 25th birthday in the country. McDonald’s SA has also recently announced their collaboration with renowned fashion designer, Gert Johan Coetzee who designed an exclusive McDonald’s capsule collection. The launch of the limited edition collection is another way that the brand is celebrating its customers – and thanking them for their support and loyalty over the years.
