
Joburg Theatre is set to captivate audiences with its latest production, the timeless pantomime ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ running from 31 October to 22 December 2024 on the Mandela Stage. This enchanting show promises to be a spellbinding experience for audiences of all ages.The beloved story follows Belle, a beautiful and intelligent young woman, and the Beast, a prince cursed by a wicked enchantress. Through acts of courage and kindness, Belle helps the Beast discover his true heart, ultimately breaking the curse and transforming both their lives forever.“It is an honour to bring such an inspiring story to life on stage at Joburg Theatre,” said Xoliswa Nduneni-Ngema, CEO of Joburg Theatre. “This timeless tale offers not only enchanting entertainment but also profound messages about inner beauty, acceptance, and the transformative power of love.”
A Magical Production
Under the direction of Janice Honeyman, the production promises a unique blend of humour and heart. The creative team includes:
- Musical Director Dale Ray, who will provide uplifting music.
- Costume Designer Mariska Meyer, known for her dazzling designs.
- Lighting Designer Johan Ferreira, who will create a spectacular visual experience.
- Set Designer Andrew Timm, responsible for impressive sets and special effects LED screens.
- Choreographer Khaya Ndlovu, who will bring feel-good rhythms to life.

Star-Studded Cast
The cast features:
- Judy Ditchfield as Hecate Hex, the Wicked Witch. With over 40 years in the industry, Judy is well-known for her roles in Isidingo and Ses Top’La.
- Bongi Archi as Mama’Ama’Bali. Bongi gained fame as a top 8 contestant on South African Idols Season 6 and has appeared in several Janice Honeyman pantomimes.
- Virtuous Kandemiri as Belle. Virtuous was nominated for a Naledi Theatre Award for her role as Tinkerbell in last year’s pantomime Peter Pan.
- Jock Kleynhans as Prince Bastion/Beast. Jock has performed in various productions including A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet.
- Dylan Du Plessis as Gaviscon. Known for his role as Aladdin in Adventures in Pantoland, Dylan has extensive experience in children’s theatre and cruise line performances.
The ensemble cast also includes talented performers such as Andile Magxaki, Bo Molefe, Brad Smith, Daniel Anderson, Daniel Geddes, Jackie Lulu, Jordan Rogers, Junior Geel, Justin Swartz, Kiruna-Lind Devar, Léa Blerk, Lesedi Rich, Simtandile Sityebi, Stuart Brown, Tarryn Heard, Tshego Molepo, and Winnie Sue Maboea.
