
Joburg Theatre is set to enchant audiences with its latest production, the magical pantomime ‘Beauty and the Beast,’ directed by the renowned Janice Honeyman. Running from October 31 to December 22, 2024, on the Mandela Stage, this timeless tale promises to deliver a captivating experience for families and theatre lovers alike.
The story follows Belle, a beautiful and intelligent young woman, and the Beast, a prince cursed by a wicked enchantress. Through her acts of courage and kindness, Belle helps the Beast discover his true heart, ultimately breaking the curse and transforming their lives forever.
Xoliswa Nduneni-Ngema, CEO of Joburg Theatre, expressed her excitement about the production, stating, “It is an honour to bring such an inspiring story to life on stage at Joburg Theatre. A Talented Cast and Creative Team
The production features a stellar cast, including:
- Judy Ditchfield as Hecate Hex, the Wicked Witch, known for her extensive career in South African theatre.
- Bongi Archi as Mama’Ama’Bali, who gained fame as a contestant on South African Idols and has appeared in several Janice Honeyman pantomimes.
- Virtuous Kandemiri as Belle, recognized for her previous role as Tinkerbell in last year’s pantomime and her work with Carnival Cruise Lines.
- Jock Kleynhans as Prince Bastion and the Beast, with a professional stage career that includes performances in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet.
- Dylan Du Plessis as Gaviscon, who previously starred as Aladdin in Adventures in Pantoland.
The creative team behind the production includes Musical Director Dale Ray, costume designer Mariska Meyer, lighting designer Johan Ferreira, and choreographer Khaya Ndlovu. Together, they aim to create a visually stunning experience that transports audiences into a world of wonder.
