Songstress Tumi Thusi takes the stage at Winnie’s Soul & Jazz Restaurant in Wendywood for a “soulful evening” on Thursday, September 15.
Tumi was born in the townships of Rustenburg in the North West where, as a little girl, she started singing to the radio with a spoon in her hand. A pastor’s daughter, she naturally sang at church and then led the school choir in primary school, but she dreamed of greater things.
When she moved to the “big city”, Johannesburg, opportunities presented themselves. She made contacts at the Coca Cola Pop Stars, which led to her dance album and first interview and performance with Channel O ‘Oboma’.
She provided backing to many artists who gave her good exposure, then, while studying at the University of Johannesburg, she joined a group called Giya Africa, which ministered at many churches under Oupa Sithela’s wing.
“I wish to see you all coming in masses to spend this soulful evening with me and my band” – Tumi Thusi
