

Disney released the trailer and poster for its live-action Moana. The film stars Catherine Lagaʻaia as wayfinder Moana. Dwayne Johnson plays the demigod Maui. The film arrives in theaters July 10, 2026.
The “Artistry of Moana” featurette includes commentary from Johnson and Lagaʻaia. It also features insights from director Thomas Kail, costume designer Liz McGregor, and choreographer Tiana Nonosina Liufau. It includes original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi, and Mark Mancina, with Mancina’s score.

John Tui plays Chief Tui, Frankie Adams portrays Sina, and Rena Owen is Gramma Tala. Thomas Kail (Hamilton) directs, with producers Johnson, Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia, and Miranda. Executive producers include Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth, and Auliʻi Cravalho.
This joins remakes like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and The Lion King, blending technology with classic stories.
