LIV Golf South Africa: DeChambeau’s Playoff Triumph

Bryson DeChambeau dominated at LIV Golf South Africa. He secured both the individual and team titles on March 22, 2026, at The Club at Steyn City in Midrand. He defeated Jon Rahm in a playoff for his second straight individual win. Crushers GC edged Southern Guards GC by one stroke for a record ninth team trophy.

DeChambeau birdied the first playoff hole on the par-5 18th with a stunning 295-yard 3-wood from rough. This shot set up a two-putt. Rahm missed from 15 feet. Crushers rallied with Anirban Lahiri’s 8-under 63, plus bogey-free efforts from Paul Casey and Charles Howell III, finishing at 76-under. Southern Guards were led by Dean Burmester and Branden Grace. They fell short at 75-under. This happened despite early leads and massive home support from over 100,000 fans.

Home favorites Southern Guards dominated early. Burmester birdied his first four holes for a bogey-free 66 (T6). Grace tied for third at 23-under. Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel fought through challenges, including Schwartzel’s back issues, to secure runner-up. President Cyril Ramaphosa presented the trophies, praising the event that drew record crowds and celebrity guests like Springboks players.

DeChambeau, emotional post-win, called it “the best LIV event we’ve ever had,” thanking passionate South African fans. Minister Gayton McKenzie hailed it as a showcase for the country. LIV Golf announced a 2027 return to Steyn City (April 22-25), building on low-scoring records like 47 bogey-free rounds.
