Gauteng’s largest youth-focused radio station, Y, is thrilled to unveil its inaugural First Touch Football and Padel Tournament, an exciting new event celebrating the dynamic intersection of sport, music, and youth culture. Scheduled for Saturday, 13 September 2025, at the iconic Marks Park Sports Club, the tournament promises an unforgettable day packed with high-energy competition, live entertainment, and vibrant cultural experiences.

The First Touch Tournament is far more than a conventional sports event, it is a multifaceted lifestyle festival designed to bring together football enthusiasts, padel fans, music lovers, and urban culture aficionados. From intense 5-a-side football battles to fast-paced padel showdowns, accompanied by live music and cultural activations, the event delivers a full-day immersive experience for the next generation.

The festivities kick off at noon with five hours of spirited football and padel competition, followed by an electrifying evening program featuring top-tier live performances, food vendors, and interactive experiences running until 10 PM.

Sixteen teams will compete in a knockout-style 5-a-side football tournament featuring rapid 20-minute matches in a single-elimination format. Each squad will be captained by celebrity players and special guests, infusing the contest with star power and excitement. Victorious teams will earn coveted trophies, exclusive prizes, and, importantly, ultimate bragging rights within Johannesburg’s vibrant sports community.

Adding a fresh dimension to the festival is the First Touch Padel Tournament. This emerging sport, enjoying rapid global growth, will feature social matches, influencer challenges, and interactive demonstration sessions, inviting fans to pick up a racket and engage firsthand in the fun.

From 5 PM onwards, the event transforms into a cultural celebration, with the pitch giving way to pulsating rhythms and a festival atmosphere. Highlights include:

  • Performances by hot live DJs and acclaimed artists such as Ch’cco, Blxckie, Tkcreedlion, alongside Y’s own Club Y honourees Thee Buhle, Shakes & Les, DJ Zan-D, GGoldie, Samba, and Legendary Crisp
