{"id":620,"date":"2017-04-07T08:00:27","date_gmt":"2017-04-07T08:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/braamvibes.co.za\/?p=620"},"modified":"2017-04-07T08:00:27","modified_gmt":"2017-04-07T08:00:27","slug":"steve-kekana-live-in-concert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/braamvibes.co.za\/?p=620","title":{"rendered":"STEVE KEKANA LIVE IN CONCERT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOR TWO SHOWS ONLY \u2013 Ikusasa (Ikusasa Arts Development Projects) will be hosting local music legend\u00a0<strong>Steve Kekana<\/strong>, live in concert, \u00a0in a show\u00a0<strong><em>Iphupho the Dream.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0This will take place on\u00a0<strong>The Mandela Stage at Joburg Theatre<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0<strong><span data-term=\"goog_1609965566\">Saturday 29 April at 19h00<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0<span data-term=\"goog_1609965567\">Sunday 30 April at 13h00<\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kekana will deliver an unforgettable 2-hour show of pure local nostalgia, including all his hits right from the beginning in 1978 to date.<\/p>\n<p>Kekana, who has lived with a disability since he lost his eye sight at the age of five, he has never let this stand in his way of fulfilling his dream. This concert aims at entertaining and inspiring people living with disabilities or facing various challenges which may be regarded as a stumbling blocks towards fulfilling their dreams.\u00a0 It is for this reason that the show is called\u00a0<strong><em>Iphupho the Dream.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/braamvibes.co.za\/2017\/04\/07\/steve-kekana-live-in-concert\/unnamed-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-623\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-623\" src=\"https:\/\/braamvibes.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/unnamed.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1339\" height=\"1895\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kekana will be performing with\u00a0<strong>Joe Nina<\/strong>\u00a0whom he previously collaborated with on his hit song<strong><em>\u00a0Iphupho<\/em><\/strong>. The show will also feature\u00a0<strong>Sipho \u2018Hotstix\u2019 Mabuse<\/strong>\u00a0on the all-time classic\u00a0<strong><em>Burn Out.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Multi Grammy Award winners<strong><em>\u00a0Ladysmith Black Mambazo\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>will also be making a guest appearance to pay special tribute to Steve Kekana.<\/p>\n<p>Kekana has over 20 albums to his credit and is one of the few artists who have managed to cross over from different genres including Mbhaqanga, Pop, Gospel and Soul. His decision of not confining himself to a particular genre was seen as a recipe for disaster at the outset as it was believed that he would not be able to sustain his fans. But he has managed to prove his critics wrong and to dispel any myths about cross-genres, as to date he is amongst the most loved and respected musicians of his time.<br \/>\nIn the past, Kekana has also collaborated and featured on various songs with some of South Africa\u2019s great musicians like Joe Nina, PJ Powers, Soul Brothers, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and the late Nana Coyote. His unique and high range tone made him stand out from the rest and everyone.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Born in 1958 in Zebediela, Limpopo, Kekana lost his sight at the tender age of five, and attended a school for the blind in Pietersburg. During his school years, he nurtured his love for singing, and was a member of amateur groups.<\/p>\n<p>In 1979 and 1980, Kekana won what was then known as the \u201cSABC Black Music Award&#8221; for Best Male Vocalist. Further awards followed, with the singer taking the \u201cTop Male Vocalist&#8221; award on Radio Zulu, and being the runner-up on the Tswana and Sotho Radio Stations.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2001, he has frequently collaborated with fellow vocalist Nana Coyote, and his links with a younger generation has been solidified through his association with the singer \/ producer Joe Nina, who produced his most recent album \u201cAfrican Lady&#8221; Kekana, Coyote and Nina regularly appear on stage together, and have recorded under the name \u201cThe Trio&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Kekana holds a B Juris and LLB degrees, and has written on Intellectual Property from the perspective of a songwriter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FOR TWO SHOWS ONLY \u2013 Ikusasa (Ikusasa Arts Development Projects) will be hosting local music legend\u00a0Steve Kekana, live in concert, \u00a0in a show\u00a0Iphupho the Dream.\u00a0This will take place on\u00a0The Mandela Stage at Joburg Theatre\u00a0on\u00a0Saturday 29 April at 19h00\u00a0and\u00a0Sunday 30 April at 13h00.
