What was once a perfunctory exchange at a beauty counter has become something closer to therapy &mdash; an intimate conversation about skin, self-perception, and the daily rituals that shape how we present ourselves to the world.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Every skin tells a story,&rdquo; says Thandi Mokoena, whose practice in Sandton has a months-long waiting list. &ldquo;Stress, diet, sleep, hormones &mdash; all of it shows up on the face. My job is to read that story and help write a better one.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Aesthetician Palesa Khumalo, who trained in Paris before returning to Johannesburg, is evangelical about the power of active ingredients. &ldquo;Vitamin C, retinoids, niacinamide &mdash; these are not just ingredients, they are the architecture of great skin,&rdquo; she explains.<\/p>\n<p>The new luxury consultation is multi-dimensional: it considers lifestyle, hormonal cycles, environmental stressors, and psychological wellbeing alongside the more technical aspects of skin physiology.
