An annual gathering of academic and business minds looks to unpack the effect of the 4<sup>th<\/sup> Industrial Revolution and technological advancements on the education system.<\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Future of Education Summit is gearing up to\nwelcome academics and business leaders in the education space to discuss\ncurrent and future opportunities in education on the 4<sup>th<\/sup> of December\n2019 in Johannesburg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/braamvibes.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/FOE-099-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1831\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 4<sup>th <\/sup>Industrial Revolution has already\nbeen heavily felt in various industries such as the media industry and the job\nmarket and changes are also taking shape in the education industry. Although\ntraditional methods of teaching and learning are still viable, it is with no\ndoubt that technological advancements are revolutionizing these methods. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe changes facing\nthe global economy are unprecedented and the pace of change is rapid.\nTechnological developments and environmental pressures are changing our\neconomies, our planet and society. All these things bring uncertainty and\nopportunity and leading universities around the world have a duty to bring\noptimism by responding positively to change. Through\nworking in global partnerships, African stakeholders are positioning themselves\nto seize the opportunities ushered in by this Fourth Industrial\nRevolution;&nbsp;inevitably,&nbsp;universities have a vital role to play in\nthis process,\u201d says Professor Kirk\nSemple of Lancaster University<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With fears that Artificial Intelligence and\nrobotics might replace traditional jobs sooner than expected, there is a great\ndemand to both reskill workers, whose occupations are in the firing line of\nsuch technological advances, whilst those emerging from higher and tertiary\neducation seek to be adequately equipped for a working world unlike anything we\nhave seen before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These changes will require transformation in the way learners consume education to benefit the workplace, society and the economy as this industrial shift encourages the education system to provide the next generation of minds with skills to fill not only current but future workforce positions, some of which are not even in existence yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEducation is passing through a very crucial\nphase. If we, as an industry, do not foresee the challenges and opportunities,\nthen we are not helping the future generations. Our priority is to produce\nleaders and thinkers and I look forward to meet world education leaders at the\nFuture of Education Summit in Johannesburg.
